Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander is facing allegations that, while still in the TTPS, he met with incarcerated gang members.
The claims were made in a pre-action letter from attorney Krystal Primus on behalf of prison supervisor Garth Guada, who is currently detained under the State of Emergency (SoE) for allegedly assisting a gang.
Primus alleges Guada’s detention was motivated by a personal vendetta, after Guada reported Alexander’s alleged clandestine meetings with inmates to senior officials. She claimed Alexander sought prison visits earlier this year and again after becoming Tunapuna MP and a Cabinet member. Guada reportedly refused unsupervised visits but allowed a monitored discussion and reported it.
Guada, with 29 years of service, has previously provided intelligence on gang activity. He alleges threats and attacks against him because of his work. Primus argues the detention order—accusing Guada of aiding gang activity, breaching prison security, and being linked to a plot to kill public officials—is based on hearsay. She threatened legal action, claiming abuse of SoE powers.
The detention order also links Guada to the Radical Islamic gang led by Rajaee Ali. Guada has denied wrongdoing and is contesting the order before the SoE Review Tribunal, though his hearing was recently delayed.
