TTPS on Alert Following US Military Action in Venezuela

The Police Service is assuring citizens that proactive security measures are in place to safeguard the nation following U.S. military strikes in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in the early hours of January 3.

In a statement, the TTPS said it has been “closely monitoring recent regional developments” and has implemented several precautionary operational strategies. Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro stated that officers will continue to track the situation and keep the public informed as needed.

“It is the responsibility of the TTPS to anticipate risks, maintain public confidence, and ensure that Trinidad and Tobago remains safe and secure during periods of uncertainty. In keeping with this mandate, strategic operations have been activated,” he said.

The Police Service stressed that there is no reason for panic, noting that the measures are purely preventative and intended to ensure readiness, stability, and uninterrupted service should regional events begin to impact the country.

“Citizens are encouraged to remain calm, rely on official information sources, and report any suspicious activity. Public vigilance, combined with responsible information sharing, remains vital to national resilience,” the statement added.

In Port of Spain, metal barriers have been placed around the Police Administration Building at the corner of Sackville and Edward Streets as part of the precautionary measures.
