Retired senior superintendent Johnny Abraham, 68, has been appointed head of the National Operations Centre (NOC) and Field Office. Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander said Abraham will oversee overall NOC operations, including the E999 Command Centre, where he will coordinate civilian staff and liaise with police patrols to ensure rapid response.
Abraham pledged to bring his tough, hands-on crime-fighting style back to the role, vowing to give “100 per cent daily” to restore public confidence. While praised by officials and former NOC director Dr Garvin Heerah for his decisiveness and track record, critics like former minister Marvin Gonzales questioned whether his appointment was politically motivated and properly vetted.
Former commissioner Gary Griffith noted the NOC’s role extends beyond law enforcement to national coordination in disasters, major events, and security operations, requiring strategic leadership as well as policing experience.
